This modest addition to a mixed-use building in Toronto’s East End provides an extension to the second floor apartment in a way that offers a unique means of occupying the rear of what is a rather utilitarian building. With deliberate nods to its gritty lane, the unassuming steel-clad volume is largely closed to its surrounding as it makes efforts to bring light from above to enliven its core.
