181: Bricolage
This work centers on emphasizing zones of warmth and intimacy in the house. Special consideration is placed on a diaphanous relationship between the Kitchen, Dining, and Pantry spaces as they push deeper into the house, and further into the garden beyond. The objective is to use texture and repetition in the millwork throughout the main floor to play with the physical and visual connections amongst these spaces, and to provide the Owner with the space to store and show their wares.
With Bricolage as the moniker, there is a deep interest in how the multitude of interventions can be read as a collection. The existing walls of the house are removed, for instance, while new exposed red-primed steel beams take their place, calling attention to the work they perform, and to the changes made.
